- Environmental Responsibility
Swinson Farms History
Swinson Farms began in 1978, although the Swinson Family had been in the farming business for many generations. At that time, the farm raised tobacco, corn, soybeans, wheat, and produce.
Over the years, they became more specialized in certain crops and are now one of the largest family owned farms in North Carolina, farming nearly 6,000 acres. The farm is located in Duplin County which was voted one of the best counties for farming in the United States.
Environmental Stewardship
Swinson Farms is a firm believer in taking care of the land it farms, from cleaning ditches after every season to planting cover crops in the winter to prevent soil erosion. Every year samples are taken to check for nutrient levels on every acre of land farmed. Nutrients are then replaced for the next year's crop.
Community Responsibility
Swinson Farms believes that a business has a responsibility to support and enhance all the communities in which it operates. By purchasing supplies and services from local sources whenever possible, Swinson Farms contributes to the economy of its community.
Through contributions of time and resources to civic groups, fire departments, rescue squads, and education, Swinson Farms and its employees help promote better living for local communities.
Over the years the Swinson Family has become a leader in Ag Technology by utilizing well trained employees to operate high tech equipment. The farm specializes in corn, tobacco, and peanuts.
In 2008, the Swinson Family produced more than 150,000 bushels of corn; 1,000,000 pounds of tobacco; and 6,000,000 pounds of peanuts.
